About Horizon
Horizon Dance Company was founded in March 2019 and is based in Bristol, UK. We are registered with The Irish Dancing Commission, An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha (CLRG), based in Dublin, Ireland.
We encourage adults to pursue their passion for Irish dancing – whether they are just starting out or have danced for many years.
Our Vision
Our classes teach the main traditional Irish dances, along with a strong focus on Irish dance performance.
We believe in striving for a high standard of Irish dancing while celebrating the art form in a supportive and encouraging environment. We are passionate about connecting with audiences and inspiring others through our energetic and exciting dance form.
Our Director
Horizon is directed by Katie Smith, a native Bristolian. Katie started Irish Dancing at the age of 7, inspired by watching the iconic ‘Riverdance’.
After falling in love with the art form she has enjoyed a dancing career spanning over twenty years, performing at prestigious venues including Harrods, Trafalgar Square, SS Great Britain, Reading Rugby, Move It London, and on ITV.
During her competitive career Katie qualified for the World Irish Dancing Championships four times, before successfully passing her teaching exams (TCRG) in 2017 with the largest Irish Dancing governing body, An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha.
As a dancer that did not reach her full potential until her mid-twenties, Katie fully understands the drive of adult Irish dancers to excel, and how important it is to nurture and support their goals.
Irish Dancing has provided Katie with incredibly special experiences, achievements, and friendships over the years, and she is committed to passing her knowledge to new dancers through enjoyable and rewarding classes.
